Sandstone

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock. Sandstone is a detrital rock formed from the aggregation and cementing of sand grains. The colour of sandstone becomes more intense depending on the quantity of iron oxide present. Depending on oxide content, sandstone is available in a wide range of colours: red, pink, ochre, green, grey, white, yellow or brown. Sandstone can offer a high level of resistance to mechanical impacts and recurrent friction. Sandstone is also impermeable and non-flammable. Sandstone is generally used in the fields of construction and sculpture, and for the production of paving stones and natural millstones. Robust, easy to transform and handle, sandstone has become an essential material for masonry works. Sandstone can be worked in different ways to construct a building. The high standards of sandstone no longer need proving when it comes to designing sculpted and shaped stones (stairs, lintels, window ledges, door sills, window frames, etc.). Sandstone can also be used to decorate the insides of homes. An infinite range of possibilities and options are available for wall and floor coverings. Sandstone also gives a highly original look to sanitary facilities in bathrooms. If you are planning to redecorate your house, remember to request a quote based on the use of sandstone. Sandstone baths and basins will literally make your home sublime. It can also be used for outdoor decorations. When split into thick plates, sandstone can be used to create extremely resistant and eye-pleasing slabs. Sandstone is also used to create paving stones, curbs and gutters. Sandstone is also used when creating large drainage pipe structures. Sandstone has many advantages to offer: permeability, and resistance to mechanical forces, friction, corrosion and abrasion. Sandstone can last up to 150 years or more, offering all of these properties and qualities. It should not therefore come as a surprise that this rock has established its position as the best material used for pipes. The material qualities of sandstone will not be modified over time. The rock fails to downgrade, and will remain solid and hermetic, without erosion, maintaining its characteristic smooth structure. Thanks to its minimum porosity, sandstone is considered as the only material able to resist the harmful effects of the aggressive combination of domestic and industrial waste water. Give facilities an original look and ensure easy upkeep thanks to sandstone. On the other hand, sandstone is particularly heavy. If the surface area to be kitted out is large, heavy duty, and therefore expensive, transport devices will be required. Nonetheless, and despite the emergence of new and less expensive construction materials, sandstone has consistently proved its significant natural qualities.
